Building housing the Newport District Court closed until further notice

Date: 1/28/2025

The Maine Judicial Branch (MJB) announced today that the building housing the Newport District Court at 12 Water Street in Newport, Maine will be closed to the public until further notice to assess and remediate mold in the building. "We are working with the owner of the building to determine the extent of the problem and make a plan for remediation," said Judicial Branch State Court Administrator Amy Quinlan. We are closing the building until we find a solution to the problem.

While we work to resolve this issue, all in-person court proceedings and the clerk's office have been re-located to the Penobscot Judicial Center, 78 Exchange Street, Bangor. Mail for Newport District Court should continue to be sent to the 12 Water Street address.

Remote hearings that have been scheduled to take place by Zoom and telephone will go forward using the same connection information as contained in the hearing notice. The phone number for the Newport clerks office will also remain the same: 207-368-5778.

Updates will be posted on the Judicial Branch website at www.courts.maine.gov.
